It certainly is, but it doesn't have to be. The deadliest thing on the road are distractions.

If you get distracted, and are not paying attention a simple obstacle will throw you every time.

Being a VERY visually stimulated creature, males are particularly subsceptible to roadside distractions.

Back in 2000, just after the World was supposed to end I made the jump from corporate pawn to care free back packer.

My first stop on the World Tour was Buenos Aires.

After a while I really struggled to supress the biking bug so as soon as I caught wind of downhilling in Bolivia I made a direct line for it.

Not only dd I spend a week riding the most insanely remote and primative singletrack in the world, I also RACED downhill.

I remember Alistair owner of Gravity Assisted, had the 'flash' bike with DUAL suspension and DISC brakes.

It was pretty similar to this.

Be it skill or the inability to stop I still beat him on a hardtail with V's.

For the life of me I cannot find the pics from the race, but they're firmly stuck in my mind. That and the sting of the hot sun and screech of V-brakes when I look at this photo.
