At times like these I enjoy regaling my early experiences of cycling. I cut my teeth learning to ride MTB on the Yarra Trails - at night on the VICMTB shop rides. That first ride I had a very unsuitable light. The mount cracked on the first decent bump and I was left stranded, hobbling home with my now handheld light. The power source gave out before I'd made it back to the carpark so I learned an important lesson that night. Buy cheap / Buy twice.
I could also mention how my brother ruined his looks by taking a barbed wire fence to his face due to insufficient 'lighting' on a bike. Maybe another time.
This NIGHT GRIND will be more of a group ride than other Gravel Grinds, so if you don't have 3000 lumens don't fear as I'm sure someone will have the grand daddy of lighting systems - but you will need more than a flashing LED to enjoy your ride.
Special mention should go to the COFFEE checkpoint atop Kinglake - open at 2.30am.
