A time and a place.
When I was travelling through South America, one of my favourite bands had released a new album.
I'd been listening to their unreleased live tracks on my Mini-Disc as I was travelling across the continent, on baron hikes, and solo bike adventures. The day of release I was in Cali, Colombia. There was a mall called Chippi Chappi's and I headed straight for it. After a lunch which was the biggest meat platter I've even seen, I found a music store and bought the CD.
Naturally a CD won't work on an MD, but between travelling companions I managed to transfer the album to MD.
The next day we travelled to Playa Blanca (White Beach) a remote strip of sand on Isla Baru in the Carribean where we'd be sleeping in hammocks, eating fish caught from our own lines, and swimming in water that was warmer than the outside air temperature.
That night I finally got to listen to the new album laying on the beach looking up at the stars - and everytime I listen to it I'm taken back there.

The PX10 makes me cry...
My first "good" bike was a a "straight outta the
catalogue" PX10. I'm talking white 531, Stronglight, Simplex, Mafac,
Ideal (most comfortable saddle I ever rode). My Dad bought if for me
2nd hand of course from Chain Reaction Cycles in Mentone for the
princely sum of $220 back in early 1983 aged 13. Did my first 100km
ride on it and loved it to bits... this was back when I was doing rides
solo "just because I loved it" and was buying National Cycling mag and
reading about Phil Anderson and Danny Clark. Back then you had to wait
a month to read about races that happened 3 months ago on the other
side of the world. If you were lucky you could find some line results
in the back of The Sun.
Anyway, about the PX10?
Left it unlocked out of sight for 5 mins whilst at a video kiosk at Westfield Southland 18 months later. Never seen again.
The Bullet.
Leigh Howard upstaged Ryan Bayley to win the Austral Wheelraceat 16, and at 20 has upstaged Boonen and Benatti in the Tour of Oman.
He even had time to do the 'Running Man' victory march.

I can remember rocking up to DISC on my first Thursday, lying that I'd raced (track) before and getting amongst it my first race.
If you haven't given track a crack - don't die wondering.
I was in the money in the points race without the aid of a 'masculine' disc...
