Rubber on tar

Speed has never been so quiet.

The sound of rubber ripping up the tar can be heard lightly from a distance, and the gravity pilots whip past with the sound of wind whistling over their machines.

Until the cries of 'GET OUTTA THA WAY!' break the near silence.

What a day.

After the first transportation vehicle strained under full carriage a mere 5km from the test track, it was unloaded, and shuttled back to Buzz to pickup the Contingency vehicle.

By late afternoon the pilots made their first fun of the 4.5km track, descending 500m along the way.

Gonz, BF and Sholtovich.

At the bottom you could not wipe the smiles from their faces.

Run #2 spelt the end for Sholtovich as his hydraulic brake cable briefly rubbed on the tyre, and within less than a seconded, burst - leaving him with only a rear rim brake.

Sholto's bike is more primative and uses a BMX frame flipped with a shortened suspension fork and banana seat welded on top.  'Ballast' was added for todays test, and it made the difference as now he could at least keep up the pace while in the slipstream of the lead riders.

The Gonz and BF had time for one more run and it couldn't have been better.

No cars got in their path, and they ran the course individually as opposed to benefiting from drafting each other.

The final result - fun all round.

Fastest speed recorded

BF         - 96.56km/h
GONZ     - 100.3km/h

Here's the 'ballast' we refer to.

If you are in the area next weekend - watch them in the flesh
