Has it been 6 months?

When you are lying on your back - this is what you see

It's beautiful.

When I was lying on my back, moments after being catapulted head first into the ground this what I saw.

The beautiful blue sky.

I really struggle to believe I ever broke my neck, that I might have died, let alone never walked again. I've got x-rays and cat scans to prove I did, but unlike other broken bones like a collarbone for example, you don't feel they rubbing.

Truth be told, if they were rubbing, they'd have sawn through my spinal cord and there would be no more me.

Tomorrow, on the 6 month anniversary of the accident I head to the hospital for just about the last time for a final x-ray.

I'm changed forever. I feel the same, but I'm not.

Is it just me - or do you see halo's on TV all the time now?

Maybe it's the same phenom when you buy something, all of sudden you keep seeing people with the same 'thing'. Like magically overnight everyone got one. Where were they all before?

People say to me you were really unlucky. I say I'm really lucky. I survived. Against huge odds, my own poor judgement of not getting an ambulance, I have done absolutely no damage to my spine.

People fall in the bath and break their neck. Not even after crashing headfirst into the tarmac, walking a kilometre back to the main road, trying to twist my neck to see why it was so sore, having a bath and getting changed, going to the doctor, then the radiologist, then the hospital.... did I damage my spine.

Im one VERY lucky person.

I can't thank everyone enough for visiting, sending emails, coffee, books, DVDs, and just cheering me up in general.

Special thanks to the - my best friend who had to go through hell with me.

I'm happy to look back on the 6 months and realise that no challenge is too great if you take it one day at a time.

There have been lots of positives to come out of the experience, the one you probably have noticed is around here on the site.

Now officially an ex-enger, I'm doing my best to clean this place up, and continue to entertain hundreds of people - most of you I don't even know. It's quite bizarre when you think of it like that.

I do it cause I love bikes, people and photography which should be bleeding obvious by now.

I like to race too. Really excited about turning the pedals in anger again.

You'll have to excuse my constant berating of people foolish enough not to wear a helmet, cause it'll never happen to me. A small price to pay.

Given the chance, I could probably even ride the Austral this weekend - only to have again and destroy my frame.

I'll have to wait another year for that.

Keep watching and see you on the road.

Ride safe.

Love,
TC

One day at a time. It makes life a hell of a lot less hard. Here is to you getting back to racing and I am very happy to hear of your recovery thus far. Thanks for the site Andy, it is my favorite.

Every time I get ready to leave my house and look at my helmet like, "Naw... I don't need it to today..." I always think of you and put it on.

Glad you're okay.

I know from personal experience serious concussion (on snow) is no fun, I have no desire to find out what it feels like from the tarmac.

"If you don't need a head, you don't need a helmet"

The site is steaming along and looks good for the work you've put in.

Keep your head (and your bike off the ground)

Glad to hear your still mending strong.
I have managed to convert a few non-helmeting londoners to the cause due to your 'luck'.
