Far-Ken Hell
Our man about town in NYC, Dan the Dirty Russian solemly reports his beloved Kenevans 753, though already ONCE repaired, has again given up the ghost.
If you have a squiz through the - you'll find many photos of his beloved 'Ken' through the ages of repair, the seasons of NYC, and of adornment.
'Ken' has been around too. All across the states of Emerika, at all the big Messenger champs, and on the track too.
So when we read that Ken popped a seat stay on a metric century ride (I think that's a regular 100km ride), we shed a tear.
Plans are to put his back on the surgeons table and bring life back again to her. CLEAR!!!
We also learned that another Ken has had her headtube flared from constant fork pounding. Flares are cool - flared headtubes are not.
It begs the question of how long will a track frame last if used on street. If you take data from Ronasaur - the answer is between 3-12 months of torsional abuse.
We've never destroyed a frame which may have you thinking - are we riding hard enough?
We also turn over track frames every street season, which may have aided the data in this case - or maybe it's because we are
Things last if you take care of them, unless a car takes care of it for you.
Back to the the bikes...
Just what is it exactly that makes Ken's so good?
The same thing that makes anything a cult classic. Quality.
They're sharp, they're TIGHT, and they are simple. They also feature subtle little touches that draw you in and make you go 'Ooooh'.
Here's some Ken's we've had and their respective lovers.
Oooooh.
We even found some on the interweb.
fully restored KE corsafix - touched by the hand of Shifterbikes
Max Power's KE MAX
Soon to be our new training wheels
JP's KE 653
KE's abroad -
A velospace KE lovefool
There are more photos out there, most of the not doing the frames justice.
KE. Live forever.

Must be something about the name Ken. Ken Self frames have a similar appeal to me. Beautifully built, brilliant geometry, and sexy as hell. |

Call me anally retentive but am I correct in noticing that the driveline on the photo on the newsroom page with the guy with the back pack with the front wheel in the air is on the left hand side of the bike? Or is this some trick of the light perhaps or just a bad dream. I used to ride brit motor bikes with the brakes and gears round the other way got a bit confusing not that i suppose this really matters just looks funny. |

although completely off the topic of these most beautiful bikes... you've got me hooked on this equally beautiful music to match. Andy, can you give me an insight to who the artist is? |

I'd really like to find one. however, whenever I see one up for sale, it's always too small. Need a 58 or 59. |
