Four seasons in one FRIday

Four seasons and just as many emotions in one day.

That's the life of a Melburn courier.

We'd like to take a moment to inject a semantic slosh into this FRIDAY post .

Our leg of the UCI unsanctioned Commuter Cup looks like . Google reckons it takes about 51 minutes... and we've stopped the clock at 36.34 if you get a good run of greens.

Getting the greens or otherwise, Melburn has a knack of getting it's annual rainfall in the space of a few days.

Today was TWO of those days.

Two layers of lyrca, one of wool, gore top (Thanks Martin Banana) and bottoms, improv shoe covers did little to stop us prunning by the time we hit base.

It was like a scene from a movie as we hurried down High, a car slowly passing us and blasting through a massive puddle of water that had gatherd in the tram tracks - which was elevated to head height right into our ear.

Grinning like a cheshire cat as a broken down tram left commuters stranded, and all the following stops were bursting with umbrellas and anxious eyes wondering when their tram would come.

Bumping into Scooter on Collins st, cursing the stopping power of rim brakes (5 speed is the new/old fixed) we laughed about it all as there is no such thing as bad weather - just bad clothing.

Standing under the dryer in the toilets trying to remove the dampness from sock/shoe/skin and making small talk with the suits. All in a days work for the courier.

We discussed the merits of tubing selection on Ronasaur's new custom bike - unbreakable. Let's go back to that in six months time.

Even saw the Lord cruizin' his commute in style.

A good day to be alive.

Everytime we see a track bike cruising the streets, vintage or OTS we think back to the FDA in 2003 when only Ron and 'oldtimers' on Beach *cough* Road could be found on such velocipedes. Seems like this 'fixed' this has really caught on - or caught fire might be more apt.

Ulitimately it means more people must be enjoying the wonders of the bike. It's just taken the simplest form of energy transfer to rejuvenate it.

If they're like us, then let the good Lord help them, because before they know it they'll have a fixed commuter, race bike, town bike, 5 speed, 9 speed, 10 speed, single-speed mtb, and always +1 in the back of their mind.

It's not what you ride - it's THAT you ride.

To quote another Melburn wrench-waver , "Raindrops. Bike Stops."
Maybe that's why he enjoyed Melburn Roobaix so much last year. Battling and beating the elements - there is no finer feeling.

Our first stop in the etherworld has had a brief hiatus, back will be firing on all cyclinders. As for the actual studio - it's been revamped also.

We've been cleaning things up around here, politically speaking - but what is it we do?

To quote a forum, which is as solid as reference as any these days.

Fyxomatosis is a brilliant resource and is user friendly in every way.

With the main focus on the incurable addiction of velo sport, Andy has propelled the perception of all facets of cycling worldwide with a radical yet sophisticated style of photography that captures the soul of the characters he meets.... His style is awesome,- a contemporary retro photographer with a sense of violent romantisism...Its great to see someone so dedicated to the challenge and able to maintain that site, take pics and ride simultaneously!

An incurable disease...it's obvious he's discovered the remedy!- Bravo!

Nice to know that some folk are blowing the trumpet on our behalf.

Happy ending to the four day week - filled with five days' work.

Andy, more first person plural? *sigh* Sure it gives an inclusive air, but I find it distracting and slightly indulgent. (no offense, just a comment)...
