A VERY long walk * EDIT*
Ok, so technically D-boy is not a blood brother, but he is a Sagittarian, and this picture tells you everything you need to know about him (far right).
Dedicated site readers may even remember his brief attempt at the TransAmerica journey by motorbike.
If ever you needed a diagram to illustrate life is measured in experiences and not 'things' - this is it.
G'day,
I have spent the last five months hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,600 mile mountain footpath that meanders north from the Mexican border up into Canada. The trail works its way through three states, seven National Parks, and countless Wilderness areas. Roughly 400 people set out to hike it in its entirety this year, and I am happy to report that, roughly 6 million footsteps later, I am one of the 150 or so who actually made it (it was a little bit of perseverance, and a whole lot of luck).
Below you will find a link to some of my favorite pictures from the journey. Just as a wee li'l point and shoot camera cannot possibly convey the beauty with which I have been surrounded for the last five months, words are inadequate to convey to you just how incredible this hike really was.
The people I met, the kindness I was shown, the places I experienced, the things I felt: it was all epic. If any of you should ever find yourself curious about thru-hiking the PCT, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. I have embarked on a handful of adventures in my day, but this one certainly takes the cake.
How about a quick tally of assorted tidbits?
2,600 : miles hiked
4 : pairs of shoes worn out
1 : blister (only 1 !)
50.1 : most miles hiked in one day
0.3 : least miles hiked in one day
11 days : longest stretch between resupply / roads
18 days : without a shower
45 days : between washing machines
212 : most mosquitoes on tent at one time
7 : all-you-can-eat buffets visited in towns
10 : rattlesnakes walked over or around
9 : coyotes on or near the trail
9 : bears on or near the trail
39 : miles between water in the mojave
21 : pounds of snickers bars consumed
6 : types of berries eaten on trail
0 : waterborne intestinal bugs contracted
1 : face plant
Anyhow, here is the link to my pics. I recommend upping the time between slides to 5 seconds.
After all, it took me five whole months to walk this walk. Why not slow down a bit and take it all in?
So go ahead and get cozy on a couch with a glass of wine (or pint of ice cream), put on your favorite tunes, and just enjoy the ride.
Love,
Snow Kittens (you probably know me as Darren)
