The morning after the night before...
There's nothing better than a lie in after a big night and big week.
With all the changing of pedals, gears, saddle heights, holding riders, between brief MC'ing, drinking of lager and shooting the breeze - there was no time to take photos of Round Three of the Roller Derby Series.
Sorry. You'll just have to turn up and ride or cheer at the next one.
There was a slight vacuum of entrants due to the Masters Track Champs the following day, notably the V-Train was a holder after a stern rap over the knuckles by his coach for riding last month before the Sid Patterson (which he still came third)
Highlights:
The new handicapping system which provided some nail biting finishes
Spud competing on a jump bike and getting through to the quarters
Me not falling off
All of the first timers Roller Riders absolutely rocking the house proving it's easier than it looks.
After a slower start to the evening, 19 riders qualified including the Sooty Park crew on a vintage ricardo town bike.
Further proof that we're serious about having fun.
When the chips were down, the raffle drawn, and the elimnations underway it was truly raucus in the Royal Derby thanks to the clanging cowbell for the finals.
Russel Collins again blitzed the field in qualifying and was the scratchman at 17.2 seconds. After bagging the Solo prize from last month, he took home some great lights from Knog.
All the newbies received bidons from BSC- Carey from Canada, and Justin (Brother of Goldstein) looked like seasoned pro's after their first go.
NDF report.
Roller Derby at the Royal Derby : Round 3 Results
Philthy's reign of terror was brought to an abrupt halt when he was eliminated in round one, thanks to a revised (and arguably fairer) system of handicapping. Ben Ladner won the final 2 lap dash from scratch, strongly chasing Josh Vicino's 75m lead.
