Hey Buddy, It's Friday!
Two countries, Australia and Canada, share english as the primary language (save Quebec)
But is it the same language?
For the longest time I kept hearing about 'Buddy' and how 'Buddy' was doing this, doing that, was here and there, and EVERYONE knew Buddy. Except me.
So one day I asked a fellow wheeled deliverer 'Who is Buddy?'
Turned out 'Buddy' was just some bloke, a geezer.
Suddenly it all made sense.
Further evidence of mixed comunique - I couldn't deliver an envelope and I decided to go against my dispatchers orders of 'just throw the job in the bin'.
The next day I got a panicked call from the dispatcher.
'So, uh, 88. We can't find that job from yesterday, eh?'
88: Well I threw it in the bin like you told me.
'Yeah we looked in the bin and it wasn't there.'
88: What bin?
'The document bin behind 777 Duns.'
88:Oh. I thought you meant bin - like GARBAGE bin.
(long silence) 'Oh. Um. I'll get back to you.'
Well, luckily I had the foresight to abandon orders and hold the job in my bag, which I emptied at the end of the day. I had to ride BACK home and get it. Per kilometre I think I earned a princely $0.05 for that job.
Thank you to The Figurehead for making my life liveable at Phantom.
World's Coolest Couriers.
My name is 88, and

and on the otherside of the same country...
I am NOT Canadian
The Lord is letting go of his last two track bikes - probably to make room for more GRAVITY bikes.
Before his time, The Lord had these rigs rolling back in 2003. Perhaps it's an insight into how big gravity biking will become.
I'll be working the lens before they go - but if you're interested you'd better
Custom 'Gonz LAB' pursuit frame.
Colour coded wheels, frame, bars, valve caps, made long before Velocity made them available off the shelf.
All new DU-RAR-CHEE pista gruppo. Ridden 1.3km.
Cinelli pinocchio chrome stem, Syntace bars.
Wheels by the Hand of Gonz utilising NOS Hoshi bladed spokes.

Also:
The MADDEST, highest end, best money-can-buy fixed project
Paconi Pista BMX.
Phil wood hubs, Titanium spokes to match the decals, Chris King headset, Ti Profile BB, Profile 165 cranks (engineered for street use) Wipperman F.O Bmx chain, Nitto Duralumin bars, pinochio stem.
All ridden a collective 50km.
Frame is also in excellent condition and is a premium example of an Australian Made track frame incorporating Zeus chromed tips and dropouts.
Hot then, even hotter now.
Lastly, when you are particularly recognisable, you've gotta be on your best behaviour when in public.
Maybe you drive an unusual car, a certain hairstyle, or ride a HOT PINK bike, it'd be silly to behave recklessly and expect not to be noticed and subsequently known as 'that person' or 'Buddy with the dreadlocks'
Right John?
Happy Friday!
Oh yeah, This Saturday, warm your legs at Melburn-Roobaix, and wind down by watching the pro's tackle 10 times the course length (259km) at high speed on SBS/Internet
Just picked up the drugs from Coffee Supreme and bot does my bag smell good.
Might just pay to find out where their dealers are located.

I remember hearing you tell the story of you hearing about the police van and running up the street to get some shots.
Your (half)hometown is going off with races right now.
'Escape from the Suburbs' this saturday (Metrotown to English Bay, 1CP, no tricks, no traps).
Knifefight street sprints - May 3rd - with rumours of some heavy hitters from Harry Jerome coming out to tangle with the boys on a straight track.
then Maydays the week later where we see if 'Fast' Mike can get on the A grade omnium podium (a first for Canadian couriers?) |
