Frames and Parts

Under Pressure

There are striking similarities between THIS bike, THIS bike, and THIS bike.

Parts pillaged from the old race bike to the not so old race bike.

In fact, the Cinelli 2A 135mm drop stem is TrackstarZach vintage (2004). That stem has seen some miles.

Here is Zach (beard / sans ink) - If you can't get shifterbikes to build your wheels, then Zach is your man in NYC

Also from NYC - now residing in Melburn.

Hard to believe it's been 10 months since I've raced.

Just like the Preston Mountain Classic where I was off my pre-broken neck mark, they threw me straight back into A-grade last night at Northcote's regular Thursday night racing.

So I just HAD to win the first scratch race back.

Must be the bike.

RAAM coming up again

More than 250 men and women from 17 countries are gearing up for the start of the Race Across America (RAAM), the world's premiere ultra-endurance cycling event. The 3,000 mile bicycle race starts Saturday, June 7, 2008 from Oceanside, California. The race route stretches through 15 states, across the Rockies, through the heartland of America and the Appalachians, and finishes in Annapolis, Maryland.

RAAM is a continuous, one-stage event, meaning that the clock starts on the west coast and doesn't stop until the racers reach the east coast. Ultra-endurance cyclists race around the clock and are supported by a team of specialists who escort and provide critical support to the racers.

Now in its 27th year, this race's solo record was set by Pete Penseyres in 1986 (8 days, 9 hours, 47 minutes), and the team record was set by Action Sports in 2004 (5 days, 8 hours, 17 minutes). RAAM solo competitors average 250 to 350 miles daily. RAAM teams of 2, 4, and 8-people typically cross the country in 6 to 9 days, averaging 350 to over 500 miles daily. Solo women riders and men over age 60 start racing June 7; men's solo racers start June 8; and 2, 4, and 8-person teams start Wednesday, June 11.

RAAM also presents two other events, the Race Across the West which finishes in Taos, New Mexico, and the 24-Hour Team Challenge, which encompasses the first 500 miles of RAAM and finishes in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Many racers also strive for the benefit of various charities, raising more than $3 million in the past two races. This year, more than 35 organisations will benefit from these efforts.

SHORT RIDES

MELBURN:

Next week!

Bring it back!

Track Match Sprints are pretty spectacular and thrilling.

Perhaps, it is time to modernise the event with a twist... and an over and under...

Sorry - no subtitles for the Canadian accents, eh.

More track.

Nothin personal against Nicole, but I hope Anna puts her into the fence.

Victoria Pendleton is the fastest woman in the world on two wheels and the favourite to win gold in Beijing. Chris Harvey meets the sprint cyclist as she prepares for the ride of her life

Gold medals are rare treasures for British athletes. But the track cyclist Victoria Pendleton already has quite a collection of them, beginning with the one she won in Los Angeles in 2005 to become the first British woman ever to win the world sprint title. Here, in a seasonably wet, cold Manchester at the end of March, she is defending the three she won at the 2007 World Track Cycling Championships in Majorca, beginning with the team sprint.

We all know real friends buy you a bike for your birthday...

To the unsuspecting eye, it might seem kind...

But if you were to give this bike away, it'd be to your enemies.

No brakes, and no cages - The latest craze started by london's finest.

Proof that you can chrome.... erm, I mean GOLD PLATE a turd and it will sell.

The latest celebrity present: a bicycle - with a price tag of £9,500

The 24ct gold framed bicycle has the optional extra of a security guard when it is left in public

The 24ct gold framed bicycle has the optional extra of a security guard when it is left in public

So what if your other half already has everything, what can you possibly give him/her? A gold bike.

It has been created for celebrity cyclists and it will hopefully be bought by the cyclist "cyclist who has everything", as it goes on sale today.

The likes of Madonna, David Beckham, Paul McCartney, Paul Smith, Boris Johnson and Fatboy Slim are seen as prospective buyers since they can actually afford to own it.

The bike, the most expensive in Britain, is too expensive to be insured - so it comes with its own personal body guard.

The bicycle, which has a 24ct gold-framed machine and is custom-made, has been commissioned by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), an insurance provider.

Not only is it environmentally-friendly to cycle but the money also goes to ETA, a non-profit organisation who campaigns for sustainable transport.

The bike started from a Charge Plug, a model that common London cycle couriers have, which starts at some £399.

It was then stripped, polished, plated in copper and then finished in 24ct gold.

The chain, seat and bars have been replaced with white counterparts.

This model is especially hard to ride since they don't freewheel, which means that the pedals keep on turning as long as the bicycle does.

However, bicycles over £4,000 cannot be insured, so it comes with optional extra of its own bodyguard, which will stand by the bike whenever it is left in public.

“A personal security guard is not a practical option for most people, but with over half a million bicycles stolen across Britain each year, it’s vital that cyclists are properly insured”, said Andrew Davis, Director at the ETA.

The bike goes on sale before the start of National Bike Week, which runs from 14-22 June, which is also Green Transport Week.

One of these can be won online, at www.ilovemybike.co.uk.

Cycling in London has risen 83% since 2000 and almost half-a-million journeys are made by bike in London every day, according to TfL.

Just watch till they see Turbo's Ciocc adorned with Sapphires...

Right TC I put you in charge of bringing the figure of 8 to burn city. The only improvement I would include is a dukes of Hazard jump instead of the bridge, or maybe just a plexigl**** flyover so it looks like your making 'the gap'. I pledge $1000.00AUS to the project and will organise the tv crews to make an 1 hour special that we can sell to TV. Surely with all the contacts on this page someone works for Red Bull, or a local steel company that will put some cash up, use your contacts and the yanks can fly out to Aus to race it!

Most expensive inner tube. $25 today. Who charges $15 labour to put a tube in? Robbery it was.. of course they wouldn't let me do it myself. I suppose I'll have to buy a portable pump now. Oh, and the ****er forgot to put a dust cap back on. $15 for unprofessional bicycle labour. Pathetic.
