Hey! Can't you see I'm driving here!

There is no hope for cars or bikes when each party only cares for itself.

That is surely the case.

As I cruised home I knocked on the window of a moving car which was inching into the bike lane, the driver looking down for several seconds to admire their new Motorola V231245b...

Obviously, they got the shock of their life, looked at me, and then went back to their phone.

I knocked again, and stopped at the lights pleading with the driver to at least wait till they were stopped before using their phone.

'How would you like it if someone pulled out in front of and scared the life out of you?' she barked.

I don't know - maybe I should ask all the cyclists killed under similar circumstances how they liked it?

Just another reminder of how lucky I am, and what a prick of a world this is.

Hunt for driver after cyclist goes through windscreen

July 07, 2008 07:38am

POLICE are searching for a Commodore driver involved in the hit-run injury of two cyclists in Mill Park yesterday.

A couple, in their mid-20s, were riding on Plenty Rd at 1.45pm when they were hit by a car allegedly involved in a drag race.

Police said witnesses saw the male driver "racing" a blue Commodore at excessive speeds in the 80km/h zone near Childs Rd.

It is believed one driver, an 18-year-old from Warrandyte, ploughed into the cyclists as he used the emergency lane to overtake a car.

The P-plate driver stopped his white Nissan sedan to help the couple but the driver of the Commodore fled the scene.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman Ray Rowe said the woman cyclist suffered neck injuries and broken bones and was taken to the Austin Hospital.

Her partner escaped with only cuts and bruises. Both riders were wearing helmets.

Police spokesman Leigh Wadeson said the cars were travelling at high speeds and the pair were lucky to escape serious injury.

"The female's head went through the windscreen and her helmet has saved her life. This could have been fatal if not for her helmet," he said.

"These people were just enjoying themselves on a Sunday ride and it is unfortunate they were struck by an undisciplined young driver."

Police are seeking the driver of a green mid-'90s Commodore sedan seen leaving the scene of the accident.

An 18-year-old Warrandyte man was helping police with their inquiries last night.

Cyclist accident on Plenty Road

Sigh.

Weather was very cold and ordinary yesterday in Melbourne, but no one told the cars.

Collisions EVERYWHERE.

Cars dislike cyclists, but really hate 'motor' cyclists...........

My biggest gripe at the moment isn't cars, it's the new 'scooter set' who believe that the bike lane is for them as well. I'm so sick of travelling down Macaulay Rd in the morning seeing them flying along. I did however enjoy the police at the bottom flaggin them over and booking them... good times.smiley

It seems that car drivers aren't being educated. Incidents like this fail to get much news coverage, much less than other incidents where cyclists are vilified. Negative radio comment from certain individuals only goes to promote road rage. Taxi drivers are keen to voice their disgust when they are injured in their line of work. Should cyclists stage our own protest, should we descend upon the Melburn CBD by the thousand, block up Flinders and Swanston Streets on a Sunday perhaps, get news coverage, get voices heard. The squeaky wheel gets the oil does it not?

Riding thru Hobart this morning when in front of the Tax Dept I got run off the road by a woman who was too busy on her mobile to see me in front of her.. her bumber actually tagged my rear wheel and shunted me forward and towards a traffic island.. nearly ate s h i t on the traffic island and had take drastic action and pull into the oncoming lane to avoid disaster.. There were no on coming cars so it was safe but I immediately copped a spray from a middle-aged male pedestrian who shouted "keep it on your side of the road PAL" then said something to the bloke next to him about "another idiot (rider) on the road".. Well I fkn spat it. Turned my bike around and went after him.. I rounded in on him and asked, "did you SEE what happened and you think I'm the idiot? Get fkd! Keep your opinion to yourself dkhead." And I rode off.. I was so angry I was shaking and ready to clock him.. He kept calling out abuse as I rode away.. TOP start to the morning.. I don't think the driver even knew she had tagged me.. Fk!
