Far superior, but not as recognisable as THESE Raleighs...

Thursday nights are getting bigger, better and faster.

Don't be a stranger...

What would I rather win?

A) The Tour de France and die at 31

or

B) A-Grade scratch races and live till I'm 90....

The President and I discussed the merit of flange sizes and the removal of testicles in order to win Le Tour.

Armstrong did it, and was on synthetic testosterone to 'keep him healthy'.

With that in mind, young GC hopefulls might take drastic measures in order to secure a lifetimes supply of uncontrolled 'T'.

I bet even Floyd would give up some hardware right now to avoid his predicament.

Ricco cited Pantani as his idol. So far he is following his idol to the tee.

The scandals are only slight this year, which everyone declares is a result of the anti-doping controls working....

but is it as entertaining?

After all, our sport is spectator/sponsor driven.

David Millar has been watching far too much Ramsay.

David Millar has said his former team-mate Riccardo Riccò was "too good to be true" following the surprise announcement Thursday morning that Riccò had been kicked out of the Tour de France for failing a drugs test for Erythropoietin (EPO).

"It is bullshit... I think it's unfortunate that when things look too good to be true, generally they are too good to be true - and he did look pretty f***ing good," Millar told Cyclingnews. "It is just amazing that he is that irresponsible and doesn't have any love or care for the sport."

Millar himself returned to racing after serving a ban for EPO use, but since his return in 2006 the Scot has been an outspoken advocate for clean cycling. He raced for two years in the same team as Riccò, Saunier Duval, before switching to Garmin-Chipotle at the beginning of 2008.

"Maybe there is someone behind Riccò who has told him he won't go positive," added Millar. "We need to find out who is behind this, where is he getting his stuff from and who the f*** has told him he can get through controls. It is just bullshit."

At last year's Tour, the news of Alexandre Vinokourov's dismissal affected Millar in a similar way. He believes the sport will change, but it will take time.

"It is not going to happen overnight, this is going to take years. There will be a positive next year - no doubt - and the year after. The bottom line is that teams like ours are changing it. One day there will be 20 teams here with the attitude we have. At the moment, we only have three teams that are really like us - Columbia and CSC - that is not enough, every other team needs to be doing what we are doing."

Chris Hoy to appear at Salford Nocturne

Salford is gearing up to play host to the first major cycling event in the UK following the Beijing Olympics as the award winning Nocturne Series comes to Salford Quays.

The Salford Nocturne will take place on Saturday 30 August bringing a unique blend of elite performance cycling and feature races to a stunning course around the Lowry and Quays complex.

The Nocturne Series was developed by London cycling agency FACE along with clothing brand Rapha and Condor cycles, and after two hugely successful events around Smithfield Market in central London, Salford has been selected as the first destination outside of the capital to host the event.

Salford City Council, which is helping to stage the event as location sponsor, has included the Nocturne as a key attraction in its campaign to attract more visitors to the city.

“One of the key characteristics to the Nocturne events is to provide a stunning backdrop to the racing” explains Event Director James Pope. “The location in Salford Quays with the Lowry and Old Trafford in the background more than achieves this and has enabled us to create a spectacular course that will showcase criterium bike racing at its very best.”

The Nocturne format provides an action packed race programme within a festival environment with the highlight an elite criterium featuring top British professional cyclists as well as some international cycling stars.

Taking place shortly after the Beijing Olympics the Salford Nocturne will also have a distinct Olympic flavour welcoming home some of Britain's Olympic athletes.

Already confirmed to feature at the event is current Olympic Kilo Champion Chris Hoy who will swap the pressure of the Olympics to feature in a celebrity roller race competition.

The roller racing will be one of many added attractions located in the start / finish area in front of the Lowry. Big screens, beer tents, wine tasting, food stalls, exhibitors and trade stands will all ensure a superb night of racing and entertainment that appeals to a wide cross section of the community, from local families to hardened cycling fans.

The event is free to the public with attractions open from 3pm and racing starting at 6pm. Full details on the Salford Nocturne can be found at www.salfordnocturne.com.

How to stay awake and watch Le Tour (down under)

The Lord says 'keep eating and you wont fall asleep'.

Right...

Finally.

I'm finally starting to get the itch for this again.

Time to dust off the rig, bleed the brakes, tune the gears, pump up the forks, adjust the coil and roll.

Ride safe, wear a helmet.

Still got 10 minutes to kill?

How to win with flair, panache, and half the hardware.

The Raleigh looks sweet. smiley
Ricco (as well as the others) should know better, but human desire being what it is smiley , there should be a raffle as to how many more will be caught by the targetted doping tests ? Three, five or will the final no. of cheats reach double figures .....

Rudy Ekynok. Worn by the great Jan Ullrich. Dope or no dope. He's still my favourite.
