Distractions

You're such a nerd.

How fast?

The first upgrade I made to my Hallmark P.O.S. mountain bike was a speedo.

Great for measuring yourself against all the other kids on the block.

It looked like this.

After a couple of hundred of kms, the cab le is generally cooked.  Especially after thrashing it at the top end of the dial down the steepest hill around.

Other than roughly telling your speed, you can watch the odometer roll over to 999 and then start again.

Knog N.E.R.D.s

Knog, Wacky marketeers, site sponsors and makers of uber-good light systems have released their spin on speed, distance and time.

They kindly threw one my way to abuse.

It does NOT have checkered flags on the dial, but it does show a LOT more data than just speed.  Short of GPS, heart rate and cadence, it does everything you'll ever need.

The olive N.E.R.D suited my Ken653 perfectly.

It does not suit my AIS Euro, so I am faced with the quandry of getting one in each colour to suit each bike.

Black for the MXL Strada, White for Somec, and Red for the MXL Pista.

Put your glasses on

The best thing about the N.E.R.D. is how fast and easy it is to install.

In true male fashion, I didn't even bother taking a gander at the instructions.  It is VERY intuitive.

You can swap the system from one steed to another faster than a Ferrari pit crew can change a wheel.

You can rotate the dial easily to suit bar or stem clamp.

The massive speed readout scrolls up as you gain speed, and down as you lose speed.

Did I mention NO CABLES!

In true NERD fashion, I calculated my RPM at 60kph on a 72" gear to be 180rpm.

I had to extrapolate the data from THIS tool to get that figure.

180!

Not bad, but as a trackhead, that's a little depressing.

However, that was in traffic, trying to outrun a Ford Falcon and weighed down by a PAC full of bike tools, camera , and assorted paraphenalia.

Front of the classroom.

Here's how they look out of the box before you flip your bike to repair a flat and scratch the face.

Is Knog. Is good.

Get yours in all good bike shops, Knog stores, or just search 'Knog NERD' to get the best price online.
